is the real home of jute. She exports a large quaintly of jute and earns a lot
of foreign currency.
Jute is a fibrous plant. That is
jute is a kind of fiber. It is got from the bark of a plant named jute plant.
The plant grows to a height from eight to twelve feet. The plant generally has
no branches. Leaves grow on its stem. The stem is covered with a thick green
bark.
Bangladesh is the home of jute. It
also grows in India, Thailand, China,
Japan and Indonesia. Hot
and moist climate is needed for the cultivation of jute. It requires sufficient
rainfall.
Farmers first till the land in
April. Then they sow the seeds after a shower of rain. Plants come out in a few
days. When they grow up to one feet, the fields are weeded. After three or four
months they become matured. The matured jute is cut down and put into water to
rot. The rotten fiber is taken out and separated from the stalks. It is washed.
Then they are dried in the sun and tied in bundles. Thus it is made ready for
sale.
Jute is used in many ways.
Cloths, gunny bags, ropes, mats, carpet, paper are made from jute. Stalks are
used in making pretext. People use the stalks as fuel and for fencing. It is
also used for making handicrafts.
Jute is called the golden fiber
of Bangladesh.
Both the government and the people should try to increase the production of
jute in order to develop the country.
